Welcome to
Devizes Canoe Club

Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club. We are based at Lower Wharf in Devizes where we have a Clubhouse, a boat store, shower and changing facilities and our own access on to the Kennet and Avon canal.

We aim to be a friendly and inclusive Club, and because of our location mainly offer flat water paddling and racing in both sprint and marathon disciplines. We have approximately 150 members of all ages and abilities and a range of boats and paddling equipment for newcomers to the sport as well as gym and ergo equipment and boat storage.

Getting Started

The club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. We recognize that people may have paddled a canoe or kayak but unless you’ve tried paddling a racing kayak or something similar and been able to do so we would treat you as a beginner.

Those who feel competent to paddle a racing boat should contact us at first instance so that we can arrange a competency assessment with one of our coaches.

For beginners we would ask that you sign up for a 6-week Introduction to Paddlesport course. These run on a Saturday morning between 10 and 11.30am and provide 6 hours of tuition with a qualified coach for a fee of £40. If after completing the course you want to continue and join the club the course fee will be deducted from your first year’s membership. Please go to the Shop to sign up for a course.

Should you be unable to do a Saturday morning please contact us to see if other arrangements can be made.

Course Dates

  • Course 1 – Saturday 6th, 13th, 27th April, 4th and 11th May
  • Course 2 – Saturday 18th, 25th May, 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd June

  • Course 5 – 21st and 28th September, 5th, 12th, 19th 26th October

Please be aware courses require a minimum of 3 attendees to run. The club reserves the right to cancel or amend dates as required.

Successful completion of the 6-week Introduction to Paddlesport course or successfully completing a competency assessment will entitle you to join the Club and develop your paddling

For juniors, this means joining the Development Group which meets on a Saturday morning between 12 and 1.30pm and a Wednesday evening between 6 and 7.30pm.
For adults this entitles you to participate in Club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday and Sunday mornings.

See Training for the current session schedule (effective up to 31st March).
