Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club. We are based at Lower Wharf in Devizes where we have a Clubhouse, a boat store, shower and changing facilities and our own access on to the Kennet and Avon canal.

We aim to be a friendly and inclusive Club, and because of our location mainly offer flat water paddling and racing in both sprint and marathon disciplines. We have approximately 150 members of all ages and abilities and a range of boats and paddling equipment for newcomers to the sport as well as gym and ergo equipment and boat storage.

Getting Started

The club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. We recognize that people may have paddled a canoe or kayak but unless you’ve tried paddling a racing kayak or something similar and been able to do so we would treat you as a beginner.

Those who feel competent to paddle a racing boat should contact us at first instance so that we can arrange a competency assessment with one of our coaches.

For beginners we would ask that you sign up for a 4-week Introduction to Paddlesport course. These run on a Saturday morning between 9 and 11.30am and provide a minimum of 6 hours tuition with a qualified coach for a fee of £40. If after completing the course you want to continue and join the club the course fee will be deducted from your first year’s membership.

  • Course 1 - CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19
  • Course 2 - CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19
  • Course 3 - 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th July
  • Course 4 - 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd August
  • Course 5 - 29th August, 5th, 12th and 19th September
  • Course 6 - 26th September, 3rd, 10th and 17th October

Please be aware courses require a minimum of 3 attendees to run. The club reserves the right to cancel or amend dates as required.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Successful completion of the 4-week Introduction to Paddlesport course or successfully completing a competency assessment will entitle you to join the Club and develop your paddling

For juniors, this means joining the Development Group which meets on a Saturday morning between 12 and 1.30pm and a Wednesday evening between 6 and 7.30pm.

For adults this entitles you to participate in Club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday and Sunday mornings.  The Club will run an Adult Development Group for adults who have completed the introductory course on a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.

See Training for the current session schedule (effective from October 2019).
