Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club

Devizes Canoe Club aims to make a positive contribution to the local community by providing inclusive recreational, social and competitive opportunities and facilities to enable all members to participate in healthy activity and to develop and achieve their personal goals in paddlesport.

Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club. We are based at Lower Wharf in Devizes where we have a Clubhouse, a boat store, shower and changing facilities and our own access on to the Kennet and Avon canal.

We aim to be a friendly, diverse, and inclusive Club. Because of our location, we mainly offer flat water paddling and racing in both sprint and marathon disciplines. We have approximately 150 members of all ages and abilities and a range of boats and paddling equipment for newcomers to the sport as well as gym and ergo equipment and boat storage.

Chippenham Hasler 2022 This is the first race we have run and what a day. We fought them on the muddy beaches and on the landing stage but we never gave up or surrendered. DCC first Hasler race was a little damp at times but our spirits were raised by some fantastic performances and yes […]

DCC accreditation as a Quality Club

In 2011 and 2014 DCC was awarded Clubmark, the Sport England standard for well-managed sports clubs. In 2020 Clubmark was replaced by British Canoeing’s new Quality Club which established new good practice criteria for club governance and safeguarding. Quality Club is part of a three-step scheme that starts with the basic standard for affiliation, then […]

Getting Started

The club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. We recognize that people may have paddled a canoe or kayak before, but unless you’ve tried paddling a racing kayak or something similar, we would have to treat you as a beginner.

Those who feel competent to paddle a racing boat should contact us at first instance so that we can arrange a competency assessment with one of our coaches.

For beginners we would ask that you sign up for a 4-week Introduction to Paddlesport course. These run on a Saturday morning between 9 and 11.30am and provide a minimum of 6 hours tuition with a qualified coach for a fee of £60. If after completing the course you want to continue and join the club you will receive 25% discount from your first year’s membership.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Successful completion of the 4-week Introduction to Paddlesport course or successfully completing a competency assessment will entitle you to join the Club and develop your paddling

For juniors, this means joining the Development Group which meets on a Saturday morning between 12 and 1.30pm and a Wednesday evening between 6 and 7.30pm.

For adults this entitles you to participate in Club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday and Sunday mornings.  The Club will run an Adult Development Group for adults who have completed the introductory course on a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.

See Training for an example of the current session schedule.
