Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club

Devizes Canoe Club aims to make a positive contribution to the local community by providing inclusive recreational, social and competitive opportunities and facilities to enable all members to participate in healthy activity and to develop and achieve their personal goals in paddlesport.

Welcome to Devizes Canoe Club. We are based at Lower Wharf in Devizes where we have a Clubhouse, a boat store, shower and changing facilities and our own access on to the Kennet and Avon canal.

We aim to be a friendly, diverse, and inclusive Club. Because of our location, we mainly offer flat water paddling and racing in both sprint and marathon disciplines. We have approximately 150 members of all ages and abilities and a range of boats and paddling equipment for newcomers to the sport as well as gym and ergo equipment and boat storage.

Getting Started

The club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities. We recognize that people may have paddled a canoe or kayak before, but unless you’ve tried paddling a racing kayak or something similar, we would have to treat you as a beginner.

Those who feel competent to paddle a racing boat should contact us at first instance so that we can arrange a competency assessment with one of our coaches.

For beginners we would ask that you sign up for a 6hr Introduction to Paddlesport course; 3 x 2hrs for adults and 4 x 1.5hrs for juniors. These are run by a qualified coach on Saturdays over the Spring and Summer when we have sufficient numbers to fill a course. The cost is £75 per person. Please use the button below to contact us to join a course.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Successful completion of the 6-hour Introduction to Paddlesport course or successfully completing a competency assessment will entitle you to join the Club and develop your paddling

For juniors, this means joining either the junior development group, the adventure group and or one of the racing groups.

For adults this entitles you to participate in club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and/or Wednesday and Sunday mornings.  The Club will run an Adult Development Group for adults who have completed the introductory course on a Thursday evening at 6.30pm.

See Training for an example of the current session schedule.
