Water Safety Update- 20 February 2026
Dear Members,
After correspondence with the authorities and further observation, an executive decision has been made to reopen the canal to our members, with additional risk management in place.
The contamination is still unknown and we are waiting on test results from the Environment Agency (EA). As of today the EA have removed their onsite teams and water traffic does not appear to be formally restricted.
If members are using the canal from the club then biosecurity and hygeine measures need to be maintained.
- No paddling if immuno-compromised or affected by a short term illness, e.g. colds, flu, etc.
- No paddling with open cuts, grazes or wounds of any kind.
- No ingestion or handling of food before washing hands and face with soap and water.
- Boats are to be washed down with clean water (hose) after use before being stored.
- Showers are strongly advised after paddling, with wet kit to go directly into plastic bags and no kit is to be left in the changing rooms.
Although paddling from the club is convenient, it should only be continued at the discretion of the individuals/parents involved taking into account the risks until the nature of the contamination has been confirmed.
As previously advised, if there is any sudden onset of unusual symptoms, please seek medical attention and inform a committee member so that measures can be implemented.
Symptoms may include, but are not limited to:
- sore eyes and mouth
- rashes
- fever
- stomach upset and diarrhoea
- muscular cramps
- shortness of breath
- lightheadedness
Kind regards,
